Diabetes X Innovation Summit & Hackathon
For anybody applying to the hackathon or signing up to mentor. Written to be read once and understood — if a clause here is unclear, that is our fault and we will fix it.

MIT Hacking Medicine Malaysia 2026 runs from Friday 20 to Monday 23 November 2026 at M World Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The hackathon is Friday evening to Sunday, with the awards dinner on the Sunday night; the Diabetes X Innovation Summit is on the Monday and is a separate ticket. The organisers are First Experts Sdn Bhd and Purple Door Sdn Bhd, with MIT Hacking Medicine as programme partner.
Applications are read by at least two people and decided by a lead reviewer. We receive far more applications than we have places, and a refusal is not a judgement of you. Selection is at the organisers' discretion, and we do not give individual feedback — with the numbers involved we would be writing paragraphs instead of running the event.
The event runs under MIT Hacking Medicine's code of conduct. In short: everybody is welcome, nobody is harassed, and the organisers may ask anyone to leave who makes the weekend worse for other people. That decision is final, and anything paid is not refunded.
You are responsible for your own belongings. The venue and the organisers are not.
Your team keeps everything it creates. No organiser, partner or sponsor gains any ownership, licence or right of first refusal over your work by your taking part.
The one thing we ask is that we may describe and show your work — the pitch, photographs, a short summary — when we talk about the event afterwards. That is publicity, and it is not ownership.
Anything you already owned before the weekend stays yours. If your employer or your university has rules about what you may build in your own time, those are between you and them — worth checking before you come rather than after you win.
Mentoring is unpaid and there is no fee to mentor. Mentors commit to at least two half-day slots; if something changes, tell us early enough that we can fill the gap. A mentor's photograph and bio appear in the mentor book given to every participant. Judges score against a published rubric and their decision is final.
We will write an invitation letter for anybody who needs one to apply for a Malaysian visa. A letter is not a visa. We have no influence over the decision, so apply early.
We may change the programme, the speakers, the venue within Kuala Lumpur or the running order, and we will tell you as soon as we know. If we cancel the hackathon entirely, any ticket you hold is refunded in full — the hackathon place itself is free, so there is nothing else to give back.
We are not responsible for your travel or accommodation costs. Book flexibly, or insure them.
Handled as the privacy notice describes — including that MIT Hacking Medicine receive a copy of applicant and mentor records and use them for their own purposes.
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia deal with any dispute arising from them.
